Protection of the waters and the environment of Loch Lomond

The Loch Lomond Association

LOCH LOMOND is the largest body of freshwater in mainland Britain being 22.6 miles long and between 0.62 miles to almost 5 miles across at its widest point.  Renowned world-wide, Loch Lomond has attracted generation after generation from throughout the UK for a wide range of water sports and other outdoor recreational pursuits as well as less active pleasures such as lochside walks, picnicking or just relaxing and enjoying the peace and tranquillity of its unique atmosphere and magnificent scenery.

The importance of Loch Lomond and surrounding areas were recognised by the Scottish Government in 2001 when it became the jewel in the crown of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Scotland’s first national park.  Extending to some 720 square miles the Park with Loch Lomond as its centre piece is the fourth largest National Park in Britain.”
